A while back we said we'd be announcing a set of releases from one of the legends of Eurocult... and any sort of cult for that matter... at last, and after literally years of negotiating, we can finally let the cat out of the bag!
Franco 70 will see the first ever DVD releases of some of the most important unreleased (up til now) films from the career of Jesus Franco. The first in what will hopefully be a long line of releases will be Lorna the Exorcist, Sinner (The Intimate Diary of a Nymphomaniac), and my personal fave; The Perverse Countess. All three were produced by Robert De Nesle’s Comptoir Français du Film Production and will be remastered over the coming months in glorious HD for the first time ever.
We're hoping the first volume will hit the virtual shelving around May 2010 ..... we'll confirm soon.... in the meantime here's a couple of pics to get you in the mood!
Such exciting news!!!
ReplyDeleteto have these three on dvd at long last.. I had given up hope.
If these sell well will Mondo Macabro venture into some of Franco's latter day masterpieces like GEMIDOS DE PLACER by chance?
I think this and Monell's post on the subject are like xmas presents very early...maybe coming by spring. yes.
The first release will contain all three of those films???? Those are my three most wanted Francos!
ReplyDeleteToo good to be true! Have I been asleep for four months and it's already April 1st?
This put tears of joy into my eyes, guys. GREAT (!!!) news.
ReplyDeleteTesoros franquistas
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed great news! I think that when people see "Sinner" for the first time they'll be impressed with Franco's creative ability on this movie.
ReplyDeletePlease please please, release those on bluray too!
ReplyDeletea commentary with Jess and Lina would be wonderful too...he's getting up there in age and worry the opportunities will be less and less
ReplyDeleteYES. Words fail to explain how excited I am about this, not only for the films themselves but how they provide an enriched context for viewing his (for lack of a better word) more mainstream films. 2010 is definitely shaping up to be a great year...
ReplyDeleteStoked for these, and I second the Blu-Ray format as well.
ReplyDeleteOn a related note, will The Diabolical Dr. Z ever get reissued to fix the motion blurring (possibly from a PAL master converted to NTSC)? It's one of my favorite Franco movies, but was nearly unwatchable due to this problem. Blu-Ray reissue would be awesome.
does any1 have a list of franco movies which is still unreleased worldwide or only shown on tv (and may or may not only exist in an avi tv rip) or even films that are considered lost?
ReplyDeleteIf they release "The Perverse Countess", we hope that they will take the original edit of the film and not the one with the stupid hardcore inserts.
ReplyDeleteI am also looking forward to "Al Otro Lado del Espejo" the Spanish version of this movie.
